Consuming Fire

Setting Ablaze the Things That Keep You Stuck

Are you holding on to something that was originally intended for goodness, and over time it became toxic? I did. I clutched years of promises: verbal promises, written promises, letters written in response to the broken promises. . . . I held on to the papers, hoping for the day that I could realize the commitments were kept and goals were achieved. Yet, what once gave me hope, waxed to heartache. Words are powerful, and they can become stickier than glue and heavier than cement.

It came to me one day that I should burn what was keeping me stuck and keep the featherweight ashes in something beautiful to remind me of forgiveness. The forgiveness I was granted empowers me to forgive. I am quite certain that this forgiveness I learn to receive, walk in, and grant will be a daily venture for the rest of my life.

Fire will take these hurts, and it is by the fire of the Holy Spirit that I will live.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful, He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV
